GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY OF K-2 & 51ST ANNIVERSARY OF NANGA PARBAT (4/14/2004)

Islamabad –April 14, 2004. The meeting of the inter-ministerial committee was held here today in the Committee room of Ministry of Education, Block-D, Pak-Secretariat, Islamabad to consider arrangements for subject Jubilee celebrations rescheduled on 10 – 14 July 2004. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Jalil Abbas, Secretary, Ministry of Minorities, Culture, Sports, Tourism & Youth Affairs and was attended by Mr. Mohammad Habib Khan, Managing Director, PTDC , Senior Officials from the Ministries of Finance, Defence, Information & Media, Environments, Chief Secretary Northern Area Gilgit, Advisor to Chief Executive on Tourism / Member NA Council and representative from Alpine Club of Pakistan and Adventure Foundation of Pakistan.
In the pursuance of recommendations of the inter-ministerial committee meeting held in last month with the approval of Rais Munir Ahmed, Minister of State (Incharge) for Minorities, Culture, Sports, Tourism & Youth Affairs, the event as Golden Jubilee Celebration of High Mountains of Pakistan which was earlier scheduled to be held from April 29 to May 2, 2004 will now take place in the Month of July 2004. The title of the celebration has been designated as Jubilee Celebrations of High Mountain: Golden Anniversary of K-2 and 51st Anniversary of Nanga Parbat.
Syed Jalil Abbas has entrusted the responsibilities for organizing the event to Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation in collaboration with the concerned ministries, Chief Secretary Northern Areas, Member Northern Area Council and the tour operators involved in organizing, mountaineering and trekking expeditions.
In the light of the Government decision and to encourage the private sector’s participation, the Managing Director PTDC has convened an emergent meeting of all tour operators involved in mountaineering and trekking to consider the arrangements related to Constitution of Organizing committee, Celebration Programme, Extending invitation to foreign and local guests, Government Funding and private sponsors, and Complimentary air tickets for foreign participants by PIA. The recommendations of the committee on the above items will be put forward during the inter-ministerial meeting scheduled to be held on 26th of this month for final approval of the Secretary and the Minister of Tourism.
Mohammad Habib Khan, Managing Director, PTDC while talking to the PTDC Officers said that this is a mega event of the year 2004 and this should be organized on international standards. He stressed upon that there should be close liaison with electronic and print media.
